The Reason this Democratic Party is Hiding its Post-Mortem Report on the 2024 Race: A Deep Dive.

This action by the DNC to block the public viewing regarding its internal autopsy report on the 2024 election appears shocking yet entirely predictable. Resistant to hard truths, the Democrats' governing body operates closer to a publicity machine than a political organization focused on cultivating local power for winning elections.

An Environment Resistant to Internal Critique

Reluctant to depart from the prevailing attitude demanding unity, the DNC has continued under the influence of the previous administration throughout this past year. Publishing an official autopsy could have demonstrated that the leadership truly desire to foster public discourse about the missteps that enabled Donald Trump to return to the White House. However, the committee is acting as if there is little to glean from the tragic debacle from the last cycle.

"Here’s our North Star: is this good for winning elections? If not, it becomes a sideline issue from what truly matters," an explanation that has been offered to justify concealing the analysis.

Critical Problems a Report Would Have Addressed

Any valuable post-mortem worth its salt would not dodge a series of difficult topics. This encompasses:

  • Voter Disengagement: The loss of a significant portion of the electorate who supported the Democratic ticket during the previous election was decisive in the narrowly decided 2024 election.
  • The Insistence to Run: The unwavering choice of the incumbent to seek re-election, coupled with a very late exit, has been criticized as robbing the party's base the chance for a genuine choice.
  • Losing Touch With the Working-Class Base: While facing inflation, the campaign reportedly ceding to powerful financial backers and not managing to address the effects of corporate greed.
  • A Foreign Policy Factor: An unwillingness to reconsider an approach concerning a ongoing war is cited as alienating key demographic groups, notably among young people, Arab American communities, Muslim voters.
  • Eroding Young Voter Backing: Research shows a major drop-off in support for the party among voters aged 18-29.

A Record of Evasion

The decision to withhold aligns with a longstanding habit of sidestepping difficult realities. It recalls a situation in which virtually every Democratic officeholder in Congress went along with an incumbent's insistence on seeking another term right up until a catastrophic public debate performance forced an exit.

At the same time, a significant majority of Democratic voters had been consistently telling researchers that they did not want the incumbent to run again.

Campaign Spending Issues

A substantive analysis could investigate issues regarding financial allocations, such as how much money were directed to insider consultants as well as advertising contractors over the course of a campaign which expended a colossal amount during the general election.

The Broader Problem

Fundamentally, the suppression of the official autopsy is symptomatic of a submission to the established hierarchy who engineered a disastrous electoral effort. The message for rank-and-file members – which includes countless small donors – appears to be that they do not have a right to know what party chiefs say they discovered from hundreds of interviews drawing from feedback from all states.

An organization unable to publicly examine its own failings will struggle to climb out of the rut that proved so helpful to the rival party.
