Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult season, achieving just one win at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him falling of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's initial title since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from March of 2023.

The win also means he has won 21 titles at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to secure a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving strategy and regular emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serve.

Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair exchanged service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to force a decider.

He defended 4 early chances in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.

Suitably, he clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to manage a return after a lengthy match.
