Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was obvious from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of the third episode show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no other options.
  • However, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for Casimir.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Explorers and Planners groups.

Viewers can expect learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
