Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis show the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important political figure stated the vandalism left him without words and had to be resolved rapidly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
